UNION BAPTIST CHURCH
SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
9:30 a.m.- 10:45 a.m.
Classes/Teachers Room Number
Beginners (Ages 3-5) Nursery
In the Beginners’ class, children learn about God’s Word through Bible stories, memory verses, games and craft activities. We focus heavily on the importance of obedience.
Primaries (Grades 1-2) Room Number 103
Minnie Gillespie/Lisa Richmond
Through Bible lessons, memory verses, games and activities, our objective is:
• To inspire a love of the Lord;
• To help children see how the Lord’s Word applies to their own lives;
• To educate about the Word; and
• To help each child strengthen their relationship with the Lord.
Middlers (Grades 3-4) Room Number 202
Linda Woodson/Denise Gibson
In this class we will use God’s written Word to show how to live and relate with Him and each other. We will use relevant questions and answers to help guide each student to understand what they read, and to connect it to their lives. The Bible makes it clear that our faith is much more than a list of beliefs; it is also what we do and how we live what we say we believe.
To encourage students to live what they say they believe, we will engage in activities that will provide practical suggestions for ways students can live out their faith, so they can be both hearers and doers of God’s Word. Our goal is to provide spiritual food each Sunday that students can use as nourishment throughout the week, and to provide it in a way that can be easily shared with others.
Juniors(Grades5-6) Room Number 203
Charlena Jackson/Terri Wilson
Students are engaged in Sunday curriculum, which focuses on themes such as Worship, Courage, Everyday Choices, Responsibility, and more. Each theme focuses on Bible characters and their relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ. Weekly lessons are connected to life experiences of students and current events in the community and across the world.
Students are encouraged to learn, memorize, and explain theme Bible verses for each theme and apply it to their daily life. Throughout the year special activities are highlighted such as learning Books of the Bible and studying characteristics and attributes of Jesus Christ.
Jr. Teens/Teens(Grades 7-12) Room Number 204
Pastor Steve Richie/Cecelia Ursin/Deacon Stan Brown
The Teen class is for 12-18 year olds although we often have students well into their 20s. Our teachers are Rev. Richie and Ms. Cecilia. We operate on a current events sort of curriculum. Rev. Richie says the Bible must be applicable or it’s just a good book. The objective is for each student to develop a deeper relationship with God by learning more about Him.
For instance, when Deacon Boykin was diagnosed with cancer, we came to know that God is a healer. When Auzi’s mom had to have surgery, we came to know that God is a great physician. When Vic’s great-grandfather died, we came to know God as a comforter. When we thought that our lives were messed up, we studied the dysfunctional family of Jacob.
When we thought that as young people that God can’t use us, we studied Jeremiah. Even before the slogan “black lives matter” became popular, we read the scripture that “we are wonderfully and fearfully made.” We read that we are created in the image of God; so we matter and we have value even if society says we don’t. Join us each Sunday and apply the Word of God to your life.
